And now we must address the 'weight loss claims' surrounding the diet, because although it sounds ultra cool to be on The South Beach Diet Plan, one must ask, "What's the bottom line? What is this diet going to do for me?"

The claim is that you can lose 13 pounds or more in two weeks.

"Oh my, where's my over-extended credit card?"

If a person is extremely overweight, then yes they probably will drop 13 pounds. On the other hand, if you're needing to lose 25 pounds or so, then this 13 pounds is going to be a big percentage of your overall weight. About the only way that this gigantic amount of weight loss could transpire would be if you became grossly dehydrated or lost a large supply of water-weight. Fat is not going to melt off that quickly. And yes, here is a tissue because that is very sad. I'll take a tissue too.

 

This type of weight loss is temporary and will quickly be regained. And it's actually more dangerous than never losing the weight!  Yo-yo here, yo-yo there - it's just not going to work if the lifestyle changes in a person's diet don't roll over into a healthy eating plan.  So if you do choose to go on The South Beach Diet Plan, then plan to lapse into a healthy eating regime afterwards.

The South Beach Diet Plan is promoted by a cardiologist. Okay, let's think a moment here. If the diet works, and a body really does ditch 13 pounds in two weeks, and if this body has heart problems, is that safe?

Slow weight loss is healthy weight loss.

Although the dieter is given the impression that The South Beach Diet Plan is heart-healthy, it doesn't seem feasible to achieve desired LDL levels with so much animal fat in the diet.
